Ground Breaking and Construction

We are looking forward to serving the women and children of our community.  We are planning to open within the next 60 days.

 

Ground Breaking ceremony, December 15, 2004.

 

 

 

 

Supporters joined hands in prayer, dedicating the site.

 

 

 

 

April, 2005 - The heavy machines come in for clearing the property.

 

 

 

 

The large stumps are removed to prepare for the foundation.

 

 

 

 

June, 2005 - The foundation is poured.

 

 

 

 

July, 2005 - The first wall of the shelter is raised.

 

 

 

 

July 8-9, 2005 - "Raise the Roof" - We were kept on schedule by Greg Matovina.  Over 200 volunteers were on hand to volunteer their time.

 

 

 

July 9, 2005 - Mission Accomplished!  By the end of the two day event, the building was framed in and the roof was on! 

 

 

 

August 23,2005 - Current view of Women and Children's Center.

 

 

 

 

September 1, 2005 - Volunteers from WeatherBarriers Unlimited and PPW/DuPont Tyvek donated their time and supplies to wrap the building with energy efficient Tyvek. 

 

 

 

September 7, 2005- Completed Tyvek project.  DuPont is providing a five year warranty on the building.  DuPont's Tyvek provides barrier against moisture and air infiltration, making the building cost and energy efficient.

 

 

 

September 29, 2005 - The brick is ready and waiting!

October 29, 2005 - Youth groups from Trinity Baptist and First Baptist of Jacksonville hang drywall.  Over 150 volunteers were on site for the project.

December 5, 2005 - Stucco work has been completed and site work begins. The parking lot of the existing men's facility was broken up to connect to the two parking lots.
