Countdown to Thanksgiving…
As we enjoy these last days of summer, you may think it’s early to be thinking about Thanksgiving. But we need to. Thousands are counting on us. We’ve already begun preparing for the Thanksgiving season. More families, and even more hungry men and women, will be waiting on the streets for a Thanksgiving meal. We don’t want to turn anybody away, especially at Thanksgiving.
During our Meals 4 Change campaign, we expect to serve more than 64,000 meals to our neediest, homeless and hungry neighbors. So we need to stock the Mission pantry with extra food to ensure we’ll have enough when the crowds of hungry men, women and children begin pouring into the Mission.
Sadly, for thousands of people here in Jacksonville, Thanksgiving is NOT a celebration of food and family. It is a time of loneliness, hopelessness and hunger.
When I think about these people, I think of Leon. Leon spent years living on the streets. Sleeping in dirty, out-of-the-way places. Eating whatever he could get his hands on. Leon wanted to change. But he didn’t know how. Even worse yet, didn’t think anyone cared — until the day he walked into the Mission and sat down for a hot meal.
That one meal changed everything.
Today, Leon is a brand-new man. Confident. Hopeful. With a desire to help others get off the streets like he was helped.
This Thanksgiving, our dining room will be packed with people like Leon. People who are hungry and desperate for a way to get off the streets.
For just $2 — the price of a cup of coffee — we can prepare a complete Thanksgiving meal for someone who is hungry and desperate to make a new start.
Your gift today will help restock our kitchen pantry and provide holiday foods like turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, vegetables . . . even pumpkin pie for dessert. The kind of food that gives people hope for tomorrow.
Please help stock our pantry now so that we can serve as many people as possible. Your gift will transform Thanksgiving for those who need something to be thankful for.
Would you consider sending a generous gift today?
